Dice Corp. buys building, to relocate

The new facility includes a disaster recovery center

BAY CITY, Mich.-Dice Corp. will relocate its headquarters into a building here this spring, a facility that includes a central station available to Dice customers to use in the event of a disaster at their own monitoring station.

The 25,000 square foot building will house a disaster recovery center, the first of its kind for a software automation developer, according to Cliff Dice, chief executive officer of Dice Corp. The purchase price of the building was not released.

Dice came up with the disaster recovery center idea after some customers requested a place where they could back-up their account data and turn to run operations if disaster should strike their central station.

"It will allow smaller competitors to say they have a disaster recovery site with their software vendor," said Dice.

The central will include 15 workstations and be equipped with a PBX switch. Dice customers could operate their company from Dice's office or remotely tap into receivers housed there. Dealers would pay Dice a monthly fee for the backed up account data and then pay to use the central station, but as of press time a price had yet to be set.

"They could hop on a plane to Bay City and run their central station," said Jennifer Urbaniak, director of public relations.

Dice intends to also use the recovery center for central station training classes.

The move from Essexville to Bay City, Mich. is slated for completion in April, following a remodeling of the building.
