How I Use My System: Teresa Gonzalez

Teresa Gonzalez became the president of United Central Control in 2008. Lydia Security Monitoring acquired UCC in January 2016 and Gonzalez continues to lead the brand. Gonzalez talked with Security Systems News in early December about her home security system and what she likes about it.

What kind of system do you have?

I have a … 2GIG with Alarm.com. I have thermostats and lights, video cameras.

Why this particular setup?

At the time, 2GIG was a very user-friendly panel. I’ve had it for a couple years now—about two and a half years—and it just met all of the needs. We were moving into a new home and decided to go that route. Talked with a couple of my dealers and got some recommendations on what they were using out in the field and wanted to understand the feature sets of the product that a lot of our dealers were using.

What is one aspect of your security system that you wouldn’t want to live without?

I love the fact that you can unlock and lock the door and disarm the panel from the mobile app. I can give my kids separate codes and know when they’re coming and going.

Where do you see security going next? What are some big trends?

I think we’re going to continue to see home automation and security continue to thrive on the same platforms, where you get a lot more integration with devices—we’re seeing it more and more now. I think obviously … going away from wired systems to Wi-Fi-type systems seems to be where more people are headed.
