BALA CYNWYD, Pa.—Connect America, a large provider of PERS products, recently announced two acquisitions through its Healthcare Division; Racine’s Medical Alert, based in La Junta, Co., and Spirit Homecare’s Medical Alert Division, located near Des Moines, Iowa.
Connect America, a multi-channel PERS and home medical distribution company based here, is growing its market presence in the central U.S. with its recent acquisition of Home Buddy, a Kansas based PERS provider with about 4,000 subscribers.
ST. LOUIS—There will be more transactions in the typically quiet PERS space over the next six to 12 months, and maybe even sooner, according to Henry Edmonds, president of The Edmonds Group, an investment bank here, which specializes in recurring-revenue businesses.
LOS ANGELES—Life Alert, a leading provider of personal emergency response systems, has filed suit against competitors Connect America and LifeWatch USA, alleging they have been impersonating Life Alert through fraudulent “robo-calls” and other telemarketing to obtain new customers.
DETROIT—It’s the third largest personal-emergency-response-system company purchase, and it bodes well for the PERS industry, according to Connect America president and CEO Ken Gross.
